What needs to be done so that the boot of the CV joint works for a long time? Recommendations.

Since the CV joints bearings are constantly loaded and work in the least protected area, it is extremely important to ensure their tightness and constant filling with grease.

CV joint dust boots

CV joint bearings are constantly loaded and operate in the least protected area
In case of CV joint dust boot rupture, only a dozen kilometers of run along a dirty road are enough to get dirt inside the hinge and disable it. Changing the drive completely is expensive, “restoring” is labor-intensive and not always reliable, so the CV joint boot must be durable, flexible under all conditions, and as reliable as possible. If the CV joint dust boot is reliable and hermetically seals the CV joint, then the resource of the hinge itself is almost equal to the resource of the car on which it is installed.

Traditionally, CV boots are made of plastic or rubber, but both of these materials are extremely poorly tolerated by low temperatures and have a limited time resource: rubber ones rarely withstand more than several years, plastic ones can live a little longer.

In order for the CV joints of the car to be reliably protected, Polyurethane LLC produces CV boots made of polyurethane, a modern high-strength elastomer that is resistant to both low temperatures and aggressive environments. The company’s technologists have developed a special composition of PU-54 polyurethane, which is best suited for auto parts.

In our assortment there are CV dust boots of 2 modifications.

  • CV dust boots made of polyurethane PU54 / M71 (orange) are designed for mild climates, where frosts do not exceed –15˚С. They will last longer in dusty and dirty conditions, as PU54 / M71 has increased resistance to abrasion and tearing.
  • CV boots made of PU54 / E72 polyurethane (red) do not lose their elasticity and have high elasticity even in frosts of -50 ° C and below. More about frost resistance.

CV boots manufactured by POLIURETAN LLC will provide CV joint with durable protection for a long time. Regardless of operating conditions, the company gives all CV boots 1 year warranty!

IMPORTANT! The CV joint dust boot and the hinge itself will last longer if the following conditions are met:
Use special CV joint greases for your type of joint. Conventional CV joints require lubricants with the addition of molybdenum, tripods require special lubricants without solid particles.
Use greases that are suitable for temperature conditions: if the vehicle is operated at temperatures below -30 degrees, most greases will be ineffective.
When changing the CV joint dust boot, carefully wash away the remnants of the previous grease, especially if the CV boot has been torn, even if the constant velocity joint is visually clean and does not crunch.
When filling with grease, completely fill the joint cavity. Do not leave excess grease on the shaft and inside the CV boot. A typical amount of lubricant per CV joint according to the recommendations of manufacturers is from 40 to 100 grams. Excess grease is not only not useful, but also harmful.
When operating the car at temperatures below -35, try to park the car with the steering wheel “straight”, leaving at least a few meters to start moving in a straight line – this will reduce the load on the CV joint and CV joint dust boot at start.
