From the name “slider” it becomes clear the purpose of this product. It’s made to slide. The slider is a special part of the motorcycle. Despite their modest size, sliders play an important role. In general, we can divide sliders into 3 types:

  • Firstly, these are sliders installed in the frame, wheel axle, and handlebars of a motorcycle. In the event of a fall, they significantly reduce the risk of damage not only to the motorcycle body kits, but also to other important parts. The appearance of such a slider can be anything. But often it has a cylindrical shape. In addition, the slider itself can be either hollow (and a bolt is inserted into it to secure it), or with a bolt already inside the slider. However, regardless of the external attributes of the slider, its task is always the same. First of all, it is protection. In the event of a fall, the motorcycle will come into contact with the asphalt in this part.
  • Second, the chain sliders. They can be an independent part, that is, they can be attached to the pendulum or under it (lower chain slider). And they can be installed in a chain trap to extend the life of the trap itself.
  • Another option would be a chain tensioner. In this case, the slider will be in the form of a roller. And it serves to give additional tension. In other words, a chain damper, which does not allow it to dangle unnecessarily at the moment of load.

Do you really need a chain slider?

Even if you have a new chain that costs a lot of money and is insanely high quality, it will stretch. Indeed, in the process of driving, the chain is subjected to an enormous load. This is due to the fact that the leading star on the engine does not coincide with the axis of the pendulum. And as a result, the pendulum has its own radius of motion. As a result, we have different chain tension. At different angles of the pendulum. In the course of the motorcycle movement, contact between the chain and the pendulum is inevitable. And at the moment the gas is released or on the bumps, the rustle of the chain, which rubs against the pendulum, will be clearly audible. Chain sliders protect both the chain and the swingarm from wear.

It is also worth noting that beginners often remove the chain trap. Motivating this with “being overweight.” But the trap is a chain, especially for off-road motorcycles. It is very important, as it removes excess fluctuations in the chain, both left / right and up / down. And it significantly reduces the chance that if the circuit breaks, it will harm either the motorcycle (generator cover), or you. Therefore, it is highly recommended to monitor the state of the chain trap or the slider installed in it (depending on the model).

Polyurethane sliders instead of rubber and plastic

The polyurethane chain slider is a popular and highly beneficial replacement for the rubber or plastic slider. Due to the properties of polyurethane, which in many respects are significantly superior to rubber and plastic. Resistance to wear and abrasion is especially important in these products, since the chain is in motion almost all the time. And according to these indicators, polyurethane is the leader among other materials.

Whatever the weather – Polyurethane slider!

Not susceptible to fuels and lubricants, salts, the environment. Here, too, rubber loses to polyurethane. The polyurethane slider does not care what chain is on your motorcycle, whether it is oil-sealed or not. The chain is well oiled or not. It also does not matter what time of the year you will ride. Polyurethane retains its working properties over a wider temperature range.

Chain under protection

Polyurethane sliders are well proven. There is no need to wait and waste time constantly checking the condition of the rubber sliders. After all, it is worth missing the moment when they become unusable, and this will entail large expenses for repairs. The rubber slider is always “rubber”. With all its flaws and weaknesses. Having installed Polyurethane once, you can be sure for a long time not only in the safety of all parts of the chain drive. But also significantly save your time on the need to disassemble the motorcycle.

If you purchase ready-made sliders, you do not need to engage in self-adjustment (cutting) from a sheet of rubber.
